Development
In addition to research, the Vis Center contains a full development team that helps bring new technology to the marketplace in addition to supporting the experimental efforts of our faculty members.
Throughout the research process, our development team works with faculty to build experimental prototypes. Once a functioning prototype emerges from the research, the development department next begins to build a marketable product.
The next phase is commercialization during which the team works with faculty members, industry professionals and businesses to develop commercial opportunities. The development team generates licensing opportunities for industry or helps develop spinout companies who are able to distribute the product commercially.
Past and present projects
The Vis Center development team has created a wide variety of prototypes and products that have garnered national attention. In 2006, the Vis Center team built a 15-foot by 25-foot seamless display. Illuminated by 80 projectors, at the time the screen was the world's highest resolution seamless display. With a footprint only 8 feet deep, the screen was a remarkable example of high-resolution display in a compact area.
Currently the team is working on a multi-touch display system through a project funded by the US Army. A blended projection system that is multi-touch, the final production will be a 4 foot by 8 foot table that can lie flat or rotate 90 degrees.
